Reconstruction of thd Digestive Tract after Total Gastrectomu; Lygidakis pouch

Abstract
After total gastrectomy, effective reconstruction of intestinal continuity is essential. A gastric reservoir is an important procedure for the better result. The reconstruction method should ensure lower mortality, less complication and provide a
reservoir without undue emptying delay and dumping. It also should improve the patient's quality of life by maintaining the patient's weight and working ability. Lygidakis said that the disappointing results obtained with established
reconstruction
methods led him to the development of new technique According to his experiences, results of the pouch were highly satisfactory.
We have aplied Lygidakis pouch to 10 patients with gastric cancer for reconstruction of the digestive tract after total gastrectomy. The results are similar to Lygidakis' except patients' weight. Mortality and anastomotic leakage are not
developed
in
any case. Endoscopic examination does not show the presence of alkaline reflux esophagitis. No significant postoperative symptom is found. The results of simple hematologic test are normal. Serum protein and albumin are within normal limits.
Nutritional
analysis is not completely assessed. In general, the patients' condition are satisfactory and acceptable. We recmmend that Lygidakis pouch is the best gastric substitution after total gatrectomy.
